What do they eat?
The Chinese mitten crab is an omnivore. younger ones eat mainly vegetation, and adults eat small vertebrates such as worms and clams.
How does it reproduce?
This crab can live in both fresh water and salt water. In late summer, they move from fresh water to an enclosed body of water to mate. The females wait through winter in deeper salt water and then hatch their eggs in brackish water in the spring. With one female carrying between 250,000 and one million eggs, the species can reproduce rapidly. Once born, smaller crabs migrate gradually upstream into fresh water, and can do so by walking over land.
